Dominant One and Third Eye are two solo artists who, over the years, have established themselves as the face, hope and voice of Malawian hip-hop. Touching on various social, religious and political issues, their music seeks to identify with the dreams and goals of the Malawian urban youth, whilst at the same time introducing visitors to Malawi’s visitors to the harsh but sometimes surprisingly joyful reality of the lives by the youth of Malawi. Though performing as a duo, the two have this year released individual albums, and are scheduled to release their first collaborative effort later this year. Apart from continuing to host Malawi’s British Council-sponsored underground event for verbal and visual arts, WAPI, the two have worked with various global organisations such as Goethe Institut and Alliance Francais, establishing a reputation as a force to be reckoned with the world over. Following their highly acclaimed groundbreaking performance at last year’s Lake of Stars, Third Eye and Dominant One are set to make this year’s event another memorable experience.
